Abstract
This dissertation examined the incorporation of evidence-based practice into undergraduate athletic training education and its effects on the Board of Certification Examination scores for first-time candidates. A secondary purpose examined various demographic factors and their relation to the Board of Certification Examination. One hundred twenty-four program directors completed the questionnaire that assessed the amount of exposure to evidence-based practice undergraduate athletic training students have obtained in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings. The results found that evidence-based practice was broadly used in all three of the educational settings, and no statistical significance was found to support that more exposure to evidence-based practice equated higher first-time examination scores on the Board of Certification Examination. Results also found that no statistical significance existed to support the program directors gender and level of education influenced first time pass rates on the Board of Certification Examination. However, trends in the data revealed that female program directors had higher first-time candidate Board of Certification Examination scores, and another trend indicated that a large portion of the participating program directors had less than ten years of experience as a program director.
