Abstract

Metal sulfides and selenides are important industrially as semiconductor materials, pigments, electrochemical cells, solar energy conversion and catalysts. The purpose of this study was to determine if a reaction occurs at elevated temperatures between sulfur and selenium with electropositive metals. Reactions were studied using a TG/DTA instrument. The metals used to react with sulfur were copper, nickel, lead, cobalt, manganese, iron, zinc, and cadmium. For comparison, copper, lead, and nickel were reacted with elemental selenium.
