Abstract
Student assessment has become a very important and pressing issue for physical educators (Fay & Doolittle, 2002; Shaw, 2014). Despite its importance and value in affecting teaching, many physical educators disregard the practice of assessing students (Mercier & Doolittle, 2013). Proper student assessment is vital for students, parents, and professionals to understand what is important in physical education. The purpose of this study was to further examine pre-service (i.e. PETC) and in-service physical educators' perceptions of K-12 student assessment. 76 physical educators (38 pre-service & 38 in-service) from Arkansas were given a K-12 physical education student assessment questionnaire. The study determined that pre-service participants regarded knowledge assessment as more important than did the in-service participants. A significant difference was found between groups on statements 6, 9, & 10 in the Likert scale (Appendix B). It is also worth noting that pre-service and in-service participants perceived participation to be the most important component of K-12 physical education student assessment, while both groups also perceived dressing out to be the least important component of K-12 physical education student assessment.
