Abstract
The purpose of this study was to gather information on parents' perception of and reaction to the BMI report card through the administration of a questionnaire. The questionnaire was developed with the help of physical educators, pediatricians, and exercise scientists. This study sought to answer six research questions and test two hypotheses. The questionnaire was distributed to 1127 students in six schools in northeast Arkansas and 404 questionnaires were returned. The main results of this study indicate that parents are supportive of schools reporting BMI and educating them on healthier lifestyles. Other findings show that overall parents are not making any adjustment to their child's diet and physical activity habits due to BMI reports even if their child is categorized as "underweight", "at-risk", or "overweight." One of the most important findings is that many parents reported that they did not receive a BMI report for their child from the school.
