Abstract

This study was conducted by using a survey of Kuwaiti journalists and in-depth interviews with Kuwaiti newspaper owners to examine their attitudes and knowledge about the new press law and its role in the newspapers agendas. This study incorporated the agenda-setting theory to help the researcher understand the impact the new press law had on Kuwaiti newspapers and journalists. This study found that Kuwaiti journalists have good knowledge about the new press law and there are no diffrences in the level of the knowledge among the respondents based on the type of the newspaper that the journalists work for. Also, this study concluded that the Kuwaiti government does not have any enforcement on the newspapers after the new press law, but still has some control over newspapers. In addition, Kuwaiti journalists agreed that the freedom of the press in Kuwait is not high enough, the government role within newspapers is complicated by the new press law. Lastly, the new press law has made a significant impact on newspaper operations in Kuwait.
