Abstract

This article looks at who steps in to defend people online. The article examines how the internet has changed our world, how hate groups use websites and social media to disseminate hate, and how social learning theory and collective efficacy can be used to talk about hate online. Next, the article delves into the topic of who steps in to defend people online by looking at a number of variables taken from a 2015 survey of internet users age 15-36. This article is a deep dive into the variables that impact standing up for people online including online collective efficacy, how disturbing content is, and having been a target of hate in the past
