Abstract

Cultural sharing has been expedited due to the rapid spread of social media in Saudi Arabia, one of the largest and most prosperous countries in the Middle East. Saudi citizens are extremely active on social media, and even government officials use it to share information. Through social media, Saudi citizens have been able to share their forward-thinking culture with the world and learn about other cultures. This study seeks to understand how Saudi citizens use Instagram, one of the most popular social media sites in the country, to share and learn about other cultures. The “snowball” sampling method was used to target 317 survey participants who indicated that using Instagram has significantly impacted their views on many issues including women working, women driving, and their knowledge of foreign cultures. In addition, they indicated a strong desire to learn about other cultures and to share Saudi culture through using Instagram.
