Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the frequency and extent to which practice strategies are taught by band educators in the state of Arkansas. This study was guided by two research questions: (1) How do Arkansas band educators teach their students to practice strategically? (2) How frequently do Arkansas band educators teach their students to practice strategically? The Music Practice Instruction Inventory (MPII) was completed by 93 band educators in the state of Arkansas. The result indicated that most band educators provided specific instruction on “how to practice” daily in their classroom. It was also found that providing instruction on parental involvement and documentation of practice times and goals was minimal by most band educators in the study.
