Abstract
According to some K-12 school principals, teacher preparation programs are graduating very skilled professional teachers. However, all of them may not feel the same way about first-year teachers graduating from online teacher preparation programs. Some educators have indicated that many K-12 school principals are not as likely to hire a first-year teacher who has just graduated from an online teacher preparation program. The study was conducted to determine if there is a significant difference in the perceptions of principals in Arkansas of teachers graduating from campus-based teacher preparation programs and teachers graduating from online teacher preparation programs. The study revealed that younger principals and principals with more online knowledge find campus-based teacher preparation programs more beneficial than their online counterparts. The study also revealed that even though principals may feel this way, over half of them (58%) would hire a first-year teacher coming out of an online teacher preparation program.
