Abstract

This study aims to better understand Saudi mobile journalists’ attitudes toward the ethical issues of MOJO by exploring Saudi mobile journalist’s influence of some journalistic values of the Saudi, Egyptian and American code of ethics. In addition, the study also seeks to explore the relationship of minimizing harm on seeking-truth among Saudi mobile journalists and their perceptions of MOJO. A quantitative method survey through a survey monkey website used to collect data between March and April of 2019. Moreover, the scales that use in this study are the Code of Ethics of Society of Professional Journalists, the Charter of Honor of Saudi Journalists Association, and the Code of Ethics of Supreme Council of the media in Egypt. The results of this study proved that the American code of ethics was the most influential on Saudi journalists in this study, followed by Egyptian ethics, and then Saudi journalistic ethics. The results of this study also showed that the perceptions of Saudi journalists towards mobile journalism were clearly positive. This was due to the high percentage of smartphones usage among Saudi citizens, including journalists. In addition, the level of minimize-harm was moderately and positively related to seeking-truth ethics among Saudi mobile journalists. Moreover, the level of Saudi, American, and Egyptian ethics are moderately and positively related to perceptions of mobile journalism among Saudi journalists. However, the level of journalistic experiences and using smartphones to cover news are weakly and negatively related to the perceptions of mobile journalism among Saudi journalists.
