Abstract
The purpose of this case-study was to examine what and how the Arkansas State University Student Health Center (ASUSHC) communicates about influenza and influenza vaccination. To this end, the researcher conducted thematic analysis of social media posts and flyers disseminated by the ASUSCH on influenza and influenza vaccinations. ASUSHC provides an array of medical services including treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, physical exams, and immunizations. I adopted a reflective memoing in conducting a thematic analysis as recommended by Ryan and Branerd (2003). There were two research questions posed and four themes emerged from the first research question which are: information(The term information refers to providing facts or teaching people information about flu prevention), reminders (reminder in this study actually refers to the ability for someone to remember upcoming activity, things to do and also refreshing people’s mind in the precautions to take), affordability (cost price of getting flu shot), and humor(The term humor means a witty or funny statement,). While two themes emerged: Multi-modal and uniformity, meaning that the content tended to be uniform across multiple channels such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, A-State App, the Daily Digest and Implications of findings are discussed.
