Abstract

Social media usage has changed the methods of communication between individuals, the way people interact, and more importantly it changed the pace of work in the field of media and journalism. Due to that, this study sought to investigate Saudi journalists’ pattern of social media use, their perception regarding the credibility and reliability of social media contents in the field of journalism. Also, this study sought to explore the motives and gratifications behind Saudi journalists use of social media. An online survey was distributed utilizing the snowball distribution technique. 104 participants responded to the survey expressing their perception of social media usage. In conclusion, participants have different patterns of social media use, motive and gratifications, and although there are some factors affecting their perception regarding the credibility of social media contents, participants to a certain extent perceive social media as credible and reliable source for news and information.
