Abstract

Studies of revenge pornography have demonstrated a possible correlation between an individual’s demographics and the level of blame they bestow upon a victim. These factors include gender, sexuality, religious fundamentalism, and relationship length. The proposed study investigated the nature of the relationship among these factors and their impact on victim blaming in a revenge pornography scenario. It was predicted that individuals who score higher in religious fundamentalism will have higher levels of victim blaming regardless of relationship length. It was also predicted that those higher in religious fundamentalism would demonstrate higher levels of victim blaming for victims in same-sex relationships. Finally, it was predicted that the level of victim blaming would depend on the relationship between the victim and perpetrator. Specifically, blame will be highest for victims in a hook-up relationship, then victims in a short-term relationship, victims in a long-term relationship, and lowest for victims in a hacking relationship.
