Abstract
These works explore our relationships with the natural world. Paint, surface and color are used to communicate this idea. People have a fundamental need to connect with the living things around them. I have moved away from literal images of nature to abstract forms. This non-verbal communication allows the viewer to make his or her own connections. The viewer may be drawn into a moment of reflection as the logical mind is disengaged. The essence of thought is there ready to be discovered. Like the Abstract Expressionists, many techniques are used to apply organic lines and amorphous shapes to canvas. The fluid application of paint allows chance and randomness in each piece though formal issues such as canvas size may be carefully planned. Color combinations further emphasize emotion, depth and energy. Each stroke, dot or shape is a potential connection with the unconscious.
