Abstract

Natural menopause typically occurs around the age of 51. During this transition, many women experience a variety of vasomotor symptoms, with hot flashes and night sweats being the most common. As women age, diminishing levels of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone can lead to various health complications. Without proper assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, many may suffer in silence. This quality improvement project sought to evaluate the impact of staff education on menopausal care. The symptom checklist, or the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS), is a standardized, evidence-based tool for assessing menopause symptoms and serves as an essential component of the admission process for women aged 40 and older. However, this assessment tool has not been utilized effectively, resulting in insufficient menopausal care. Consequently, there is a clear need for comprehensive staff education on the administration of MRS checklist, intending to boost staff confidence and increase MRS compliance rates. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were utilized to analyze the project data. Findings indicated a modest increase in staff confidence in administering MRS checklist, with confidence levels rising from 47.42% to 52.58%. Additionally, the number of submitted MRS checklists more than doubled, increasing from 13 pre-intervention to 27 post-intervention. While the intervention did not result in a statistically significant improvement in confidence levels, the substantial increase in MRS submissions suggests a clinically relevant impact, indicating that the intervention may have positively influenced other aspects of participant engagement.
