Description
Director's Note
We are excited to present Soft Animals by Erin Mallon as part of The Farm Theater’s College Collaboration project. Along with The Farm Theater and Pellissippi State Community College, we commissioned Erin Mallon to write a play for each school to independently produce throughout the academic year. The faculty, students, and playwright began this collaboration last year and worked together in the development of the text. It all began with conversations between the students and the playwright, resulting in a script that reflected the students’ thoughts on the theme suggested by the playwright. The play has changed significantly throughout the rehearsal process. We even got some revisions during dress rehearsal this week! This is the process of play development, and we are excited to to be a part of it. You, the audience, are seeing a play that has never been done before. The students are developing a new play, originating roles, and working with a script that is changing through rehearsal — largely due to their contributions. These are experiences that most college students never get a chance to experience.
Enjoy the show!
