Description

FROM THE DIRECTOR

Welcome, everyone, to the A-State Department of Theatre’s production of Little Women. While I do not know what brought you to join us for this story, one thing about this show that draws me in is the connection it has to family and both our love for them and from them. As we follow Jo March and the members of her family, both blood-related and chosen, we see how the love and support from family can help us chase our dreams, even if they take us to unexpected places. We see that with sibling rivalry there is still love, we see how the burden to be strong can be carried by one or many, and we see how sometimes family may pressure us to change, but in the end, they love us for who we are. We are that which makes our hearts beat, ignites our passions, and carries us to our dreams!

As we navigate this post-pandemic world, I believe this show is the perfect piece of theatre to immerse ourselves in. Many felt a loss of connection with their loved ones during the past few years, and Little Women will remind you how love can be sent over great distances. It will also remind you how to keep those you lost close to your heart and alive in your memories. While this musical is often seen through the lens of Jo March, I urge you to view it from the perspective of whichever character you find your most profound connection with and see how they too experience the love, loss, and joy of family throughout the show’s journey.
