FROM THE DIRECTOR
Upon receiving my first copy of the script, I re-read it until the pages were worn. I was intrigued by the structure of the script and playwright Rajiv Joseph’s ability to tell a beautiful story in a non-linear timeline. From the first scene, I was mesmerized by the relationship between Doug and Kayleen. Although I didn’t always understand the dynamics of their friendship, I felt deeply connected with their relationship and love for one another. You’ll see two people who love each other but also cause each other great pain. For me, Doug and Kayleen’s relationship is their “playground” where they accumulate “gruesome” physical and emotional “injuries” while simultaneously experiencing triumphs, love, and joy with one another. As you watch this performance, I hope you reflect on your relationships with your loved ones. I hope this play encourages you to reconnect with lost friends. Watching Kayleen and Doug’s life unfold, I hope you learn something about yourself and your community.
