Abstract
Depression in college athletics has become a growing concern in recent years. Thus, the current review sough to provide a comprehensive overview of the research conducted up to this point on the subject of depression in college athletics, while also revealing areas in which more research is still needed. The initial search of the research databases produced 729 articles. 26 of the articles met the inclusion criteria and were accepted for the review. The results identified (a) the prevalence rate of depressive symptoms in college athletes, (b) risk factors contributing to the presence of depressive symptoms in college athletes, (c) current and potential measures used to prevent/alleviate depressive symptoms in college athletes.
