Abstract

Morphological awareness (MA) contributes to a student’s reading, reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, and writing skills. At this time, minimal information is available about teachers’ understanding of MA or their frequency of instruction in the classroom. This study aimed to determine the frequency of MA instruction in curricula and what strategies teachers use to target MA. This study utilized a survey to probe educator’s knowledge of MA and discover the instructional strategies and frequency of MA instruction in the general education classroom. The results from this study indicated that while many teachers target MA in the classroom, strategies and frequency of use varied from teacher to teacher.
