Description

FROM THE DIRECTOR - Dallas Martinez

Welcome to our production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] [again]. You are in for quite a ride.

At first glance, tonight may appear to have all the familiar trappings of a traditional evening of Shakespeare: lofty language, tragic heroes, star-crossed lovers, kings, queens, sword fights, and perhaps a skull or two. But appearances can be deceiving. What begins as an earnest attempt to celebrate the Bard quickly becomes a wonderfully chaotic race through all thirty-seven of Shakespeare’s plays, a nod to his sonnets, and nearly every theatrical convention we can turn upside down along the way.

For our actors, this production has been a roller coaster of discovery, precision, improvisation, physical comedy, and, most importantly, trust in one another. Although the evening may often appear to be spiraling completely out of control, rest assured that there is, at least occasionally, a method to the madness.

Tonight, the fourth wall is less a wall and more of a sliding window. It will open, close, disappear, and perhaps be forgotten altogether. You are not simply here to watch; you are part of the experience.

So I ask only this: let loose, be willing to play, and join us in the fun. Shakespeare has survived more than four hundred years. Tonight, we intend to see if he can survive us. Enjoy the ride!
